California's Inivitaives for Reducing Climate Change,

by Nada N, Gr. 11

California's major initiatives for reducing climate change or greenhouse gass are outlined in Assembly Bill 32. The state is trying to reduce passenger car emissions back to 1990 levels by 2020, a reduction of about thirty percent. They hope to reduce levels to eighty percent below 1990 by 2050. California produces about 1.4% of total U.S. greenhouse gases. Governor ARnold Schwartzenegger's executive order is to further advance clean renewable energy and other solutions to lower the state's greenhouse emissions. California's global warming solutions in 2006 were to establish the first comprehensive program of regulatory and market mechanisms to achieve great cost-effective reductions of greenhouse gases, and it was the first in the world.

Water Conservation By Liualii Fitiuta Leasau

There are many ways to conserve water in your daily life whether it is turning the water off while you brush your teeth or only washing your clothes when you a large load. Everyday the average American uses between 80-100 gallons of water a day, according to the USGS. We should try and conserve water because although 80% of the earth is covered with water only 3% of it can be used as a fresh water resource.   Although there are alternatives to conserving water such as desalination and cleaning plants they have major flaws. Desalination uses our oceans water but what happens when all our salt water is gone and desalination kills 2.5 pounds of fish per day that's 912.5 pounds of fish per year, also fresh water is being used faster than Cleaning plants recycle. Cleaning plants are facilities that recycle used water, so the water you flush down the toilet might come back out your faucet. There are more ways that you can conserve water such as,

Wildlife, by Rodric

The San Diego River and lakes are home to many species of animals, some of which are in danger of extinction. Among these are fish, small rodents, birds, and reptiles. Although there are many common species here there also many endangered animals. Some examples of these are the arroyo toad, least bell's vireo, and the southwestern pond turtle. All of these are depending on the habitat of the San Diego River to make sure they survive. Also among these animals are small and mid-size rodents. Examples of some of these rodents are raccoons, foxes, and mice. Birds also play a huge part in the San Diego River ecosystem. All these animals depend on the San Diego River and surrounding land to survive.
