SD Botanical Gardens Trip

Botanical Gardens by Lindsey
1] Coffee Tree- Caffeine from the dried seeds or "beans" inside the coffee berry can treat headaches and migraines
2] Italian Flat Leaf Parsley- I love it in spaghetti and many other foods. It can also be used as an antiseptic for wounds.
3] Toothpick Cactus- It has beautiful blooms and fruit with a lemony rind that is edible.
4] Monkey Puzzle Tree- It can survive harsh weathers and is also the national tree of Chile.
5] Floss Silk Tree- My favorite tree! It has sharp spines on the trunk to protect the valuable silky seed floss that is used for pillows and mattresses.
6] Chalk Dudleya- This attractive succulent requires little summer water.
7] Chestnut White Sapote- This cultivar is a large tree with heavy fruit set. The fruit turns yellow-green when ripe.
8] Green-Red Banana- The peel on this banana changes to an orange-yellow color when ripe.
9]Mexican Lemon Verbena- Plants of this genus are used for flavoring foods in Mexico.
10] Golden Ball Cactus- This cactus branches with age. It has yellow blooms only when mature.
11] Galapagos Island Prickly Pear- The fruits are eaten by the gigantic tortoises found on these Pacific islands.
12] Coyote Bush- This is a common local shrub. Female plants have attractive white seed clusters in the fall.
13] Chaparral Yucca; Our Lord's Candle- This species grows locally in chaparral and coastal sage scrub plant communities.
14] Desert Agave- This attractive species grows in the Anza Borrego desert.
15] Sierra Star Red Fairy Duster- Red Bottlebrush-like flowers are found all year long on this evergreen shrub.
16] Kohuhu- This is a compact form of the common landscape shrub.
17] Nagi Broadleaf Pine- This is an attractive small evergreen tree.
18] Red Poker- Many hybrids have been developed as garden perennials.
19] Lions-Tail- The orange flowers are pollinated by sunbirds which are similar to hummingbirds.
20] Cape Heather- Hundreds of heather species grow in the fynbos habitat.
21] Mountain Cabbage Tree- This small, slow-growing, evergreen tree has corky bark, a swollen base and small green flowers in short spikes.
22] Mexican Poppy- This is a relative of the California poppy and blooms through the summer.
23] Guadalupe Island Pine- This rare variety of Monterey Pine has two needles per bundle.
24] Lemonade- Berry- This native shrub is common locally and is not very flammable.
25] Prostrate Chamise- This is a prostrate variety of our most common chaparral shrub.

What I liked by NOhelani, Gr. 9

My Favorite part was the Hawiian section. I love the hibscus and the vanilla plaiforgia. It was really gorgues and very pretty. The flower was the color white and the outside pink and the middle has a pink stem like the Hawi'ian flower. The rainforest was eally pretty and it was one of my favorite place. The fruit was that I like was the breadfruit. Breadfruit is a tropical fruit.
You wrap it in foil and cook it on 350 degrees for about 20 minutes.
You take it out and let it cool for about 5 minutes.
Then unwrap and eat it. It takes like bread.(If you put jelly and peanut butter it takes like a peanut and jelly)
