Yucatan, by Steph, gr. 6

My family came from Yucatan. My ancestors are the Mayan Indians. My family’s original language is the Yucatan Mayan language. My great grandparents immigrated to Miami Arizona were they had 8 children 4 girls and 4 boys then when the 8 kids grew up they slowly came to San Diego. The food that was common was corn and fish. My great grandpa valentine leyba was a political in a small town called Miami Arizona.
Mayas believed that have had 13 layers, also that there were four gods, one at each corner holding up the sky. The Mayas also believe that the sky was the back of a giant crocodile. The Mayan Indians lived in small houses usually one bed room; they were famous for growing squash, beans and tabacco. They cooked right aside the river and their washing took place in the river. Men usually hunted and kept an eye on the cornfields, the woman usually washed and cooked. The family way was usually marriage, culture change, language, communication and religion. The traditional ways that the Mayas did were religion, loyalty and social unity.

Pacific Mexico

Well my family came from a southern port of Mexico's Pacific side. My heritage came from a little town where transportation was either a mule, a horse, or walking. If you live near the enter or the town you had electricity, but if you lived outside didn’t have any electricity.
My family is Catholic, and their parents would used to get my parents up at 5:00 am in the morning to go to church. We lived of agriculture and planting green onions, cilantro and fruit trees.
They ate tortillas, beans, rice and some tamales. In some important occasions they made fresh cheese, they killed pigs or chickens, and then they prepared a festival. There was no running water; you had to go to the river to wash your clothes and to wash yourself. By Michael, Gr. 6

To my Daddy the tiger

Who calls me Lulu

Whose eyes are as bright as the sun

Whose hair is as smooth as skiing on ice

Who tells me, "you bring my heart fun"

Who is so fast like a tiger running through the fields

Who takes me places like Moutain Soledad,

and to watch the big colorful light go down

Who wants to take me flying like a bird high up in the sky

I want to tell him, "I will give you the round shining moon"

I want to give him my big round heart.

Nayarit, by Jess., gr. 6

My family came from Chilapa, Nayarit. We are my grandma, dad, mom and me. Our family became U.S citizens. Our native foods are beans, rice, and shrimp. My family normaly speaks Spanish because that is our native language. We dress like normal people should, ie: jeans and shirts. Our hairstyle, well, we just put it in a regular pony tail. In the past we lived differently; we had to milk a cow and feed chickens. No one from our family was famous. Our family is Catholic and we celebrate  all of the holidays. We are just normal people.

Michocan

My family was not born here. My dad came first in 1984, then my mom came in 1990. They came alone with their clothes packed. They moved because they wanted to have a better life and because Mexico was too poor. They moved from Michoacan and went walking all the way to San Diego California. My parents were born in Mexico and came to San Diego, but I was born here. My parents met in San Diego and had my sister in 1995. We stayed our whole life here in San Diego. We have lived here since 1995. By Al. gr.4

Mexico Originally my family lived in México, and my mom wanted to work in California. Also she wanted to be a resident of the United States, and she heard that are a lot of big jobs. When my mom came to California it was the year 1985, and she came here by an airplane and she only brought clothes and a little but of money. When my family moved to California my mom stayed with her brother and my father stayed with his sister because they didn’t have a house yet. My mom moved from Mexico to Pacific Beach to live. My mom's mother helped her get on the plane. EL 4

Hero by SSc My grandmother is a kind and simple person. She is very helpful and always willing to give a helping hand. She always makes time for everyone and has an abundance f love to give. Just like my grandmother, I too give plenty of time in volunteering and helping out my classmates at school. In my family I am always the one my cousins go to when they need advice

My grandparents always told us how limited their education was back in their town. And how much Americans take education for granted. They always told us that nothing is better than an A in school and to always try our best to take advantage of every opportunity given to us and to never forget that a great education could never be taken away from us regardless of the circumstances put in front of us.

Because of their beliefs and advice I have seen how much they have struggled and the racism they have had to face in this country. In school I have jumped on every opportunity presented to me. I know that a good grade is not always guaranteed and you must work hard to maintain it.

In Mexico women wear big colorful dresses and in Ireland women wear plan long long, and in Germany women wear plan old dresses. And it’s was difficult for my ancestors. Brigham Young was famous. My religion on my mom side is pagan and on my dad side is Catholic.

Tijuana is near San Diego. I used ato live there about two years ago for the summer. I think the food there is yummy but there is some places I don't really like. Most of the art there is hand made, and most sold at the border. The holidays there are just any other ordanary ones. But they celabrate the cinco de mayo, wich only mexicans celabrate. when you cross the border, it really depends on how eaqrly/late you decide to cross it. If you go in the moring, around 6-10, it goes pretty fast, but any later then that, you may be there for about an hour to three, really depends what time of day you go. I want a pony. At the border ther sell a type of ice cream they call a Bollie. They are soooo good:). KZ
