City Heights

City Heights, a Diverse Neighborhood

City Heights has an incredibly diverse ethnic population. It is estimated to as much as 100 languages and is spoken from 70,000 people in the community. Urban village is based on an effort to stop crime and have educational systems for all ages.

Thousands of people use services available in urban village in City Heights. Many are  young people who have no place to play or study. There were no recreational or educational opportunities in this community; now all of that changed. Now they offer basketball, volleyball, and table tennis and in the same building there is a mid city substation.

The building opened in 1996and in 1997 crime had dropped more than 6% in the area! Crime in the area is still decreasing today. Urban village is exciting and brings people together. It is described as a town within a town. They have free and reduced-priced programs in the recreational center. You can get here by San Diego buses.

The employees are committed to keeping this place clean. There are swim centers for adults and children, soccer fields, and tennis courts for all ages. This 8,800 square - footed recreation center is completed with large enough rooms for dance class, homework club, and meeting rooms. There is a library complex with a head start program, a community service center, and it has 53,000 volumes of books and other reading materials. by Marcella, gr. 10

Response to Play at Old Globe

The play reflects attitudes about race because a black man named Joe Louis became something famous in a time back then the time when people where very races he took his title and made it something big and I thought that was great. Race still exists but attitudes did change because people are not the same that much as they where back then. Now people can do whatever they want and how they wanted without being forced and giving a title. They make their own, Not just only black people but any other race can do what they want as well I think things & attitudes has changed a lot especially now. By Shaneequa

POEM of THANKS

Thank You,

For giving me some,

Snow boots,

They are so warm,

And cozy

I also like the color,

A dark chocolate

And the furry mushy feel

When I shove my feet into,

The softness.
