| "House of Hospitality Association promotes cultural and recreational use of Balboa Park and is committed to being the primary resource for information about the Park. The Association is responsible for the preservation and maintenance of the National Historic Landmark House of Hospitality." www.balboapark.org/house The House of Hospitality runs the Balboa Park visitor's center. There is a gift shop and an information desk within the visitor's center, for sales and service. It is directed towards tourists. The hours are from 9:30-4:30. There are many employees, both volunteers and paid workers. The volunteers work at the information desk. There are about 15 or 20 or them. Only six work with the girt shop. Those are the paid workers. A button-up shirt with the BPUS logo is the uniform, however it is not required. The dress code is very casual , as long as the employee ID is showing. As an employee I give directions and sell souvenirs and snacks to tourists. I get paid $7.50 an hour. No benefits are offered, because it is nonprofit. The work environment and atmosphere are calm and tranquil, helping the days to roll by problem free. Al the crew and customers are very mellow and very easy to work with and get along with. Twnety years from now I believe the visitor's center will still be needed. As long as there are tourists they will want information, and as long as there are visitors there will be the visitor's center. The information will change over time, along with Balboa Park. Knowledge of Balboa Park, history, locations of museums, the best food in the park and so on will qualify someone for the job. I work at the visitor's center. Jordan, Grade 12 |

The business helps develop greater community involvement, to advocate for changes in government policies and systems that will improve the quality of life for all Mid- citys residents especially children in the neighborhood. The network is provided by sponsors called Say San Diego Fiscal Sponsors. The special things they do is help young kids, schools, and families all at once. Many people get together and help out in the community doing special task like help clean trash and keep the community clean. It is a non-profit organization. The community likes that they get to give back to the community. A group gets together and has activities and they welcome all ages and all people to participate in many activities such as: giving free groceries, having a live band, and giving out food from different culture. This business will definitely be needed in ten years because it supports teen youth and the many people that live in it. It will change the way many teens view life. It will have them thinking about life in a different point of view. To work at place like this you have to be willing to help and give back. You need to have a kind heart. I would like to work at this business because I love helping people and I know if I needed help I would want others to help me. Teena, Grade 10 |

| Bethel Evangelical Church I help out in the Sunday school program in the church I attend. I work with girls ages 6-8. This program gives children the opportunity to learn about the Bible and to know Jesus. It's open to the public-- basically anyone who wants to attend it. Sunday school starts at 10:00 AM, and it's over around 12:30 PM. during this time children learn stories from the Bible and are related with today's issues or simply things we go through at times. Sunday school in this certain place has been around for years--around 30-50 years. There are about 25 people that are involved in the hleping. the special tools used in this job are, the Bible, a lesson book , and materials for the activitiy. I don't get pay for this job. I just volunteer. I like working with children and I've learned how to work with them. I can say it can be challenging at times. I believe this program will be necessary in the next ten years because this teaches children how to behave and about the Bible. I think the vision stays the same but the strategies on how to achieve the goal will improve. Mayra, Grade 12 |
