Stable Hands Miramar Stables houses horses owned by military families. The stable provides food and water and storage lockers . The owners of the horses pay a boarding fee. The stable is open every day. In addition to providing a place for families to board horses, the workers find homes for abandoned horses. About six workers are on site each day. Most of them wear cowboy boots. The workers say that they like working there because of the friends they make, and they are not talking about their co-workers! Working at the stable requires time, patience and commitment. It might be closed down if the military needs the space. Cachet and Ana, Gr. 12

Maintenance Over the summer I spent two hours a night cleaning out an office building. It wasn't much fun, and it didn't pay too well but it was better than nothing. My aunt and I would go to the second, third, and fourth floors of a building in downtown and empty the trash, wipe down the desks, vaccum, and then go tot the first floor and sweep and mop the marble floor. The business is owned by a family who employs people, mostly women, to clean office buildings. since the office buildig that we worked at only consisted of fourteen sections and roughly six offices per unit, it took the two of us only two hours to accomplish everything that needed to be done. We kept a work environment clean so the workers wouldn't have to worry themselves over who was going to stop what they were doing and take out the trash. Since my aunt and I did a better job than our previous counterparts they would leave us gifts like cookies, shirts, and DVD's. This service seems to be needed because no one likes to clean up after themselves. Laura, Gr. 12

Handyman Services This is a family business. It's not a franchise. Customers call with problems like a broken fence that needs to be repaired or cracked cement that needs to be cemented. There are no specific hours to the job, but the owners work from dusk unitl dawn. It has been in operation since the year 2002. There were pleanty of achievements, one of them was that we knocked down a long fence and rebuilt it. My father and I work together in some of the jobs. The pay depends on the job. I'm not sure we get any benefits, except the fact that we can take breaks whenever we want as long as the job is don on time. I'm hoping that I carry on this business and start a big handyman business. It will most likely change to meet new demands. I definitely take on this business. Jonathan, Gr. 12
